The following photographs were taken on Aug. 21 at Travis AFB in Fairfield, California. They are of the Vickers Vimy, a flying replica of a World War I biplane bomber, which will attempt to retrace the first England-to-Australia flight. The Vimy was flown by a C-5 Galaxy to RAF Mildenhall, England, on Aug. 22, and the Vimy will begin its flight on Sept. 11 and fly more than 12,000 to Darwin, Australia, which should take about 30 days. The image quality is high enough for reproduction, and permission is granted to reproduce these images in publications.
